Beginning January 19, 2009, residents and businesses in the City will be required to register their burglar alarm systems. Under an ordinance passed by the City Council last year all systems must be registered and false alarms will be monitored. This effort is targeted at reducing the large number of false alarms received annually by the police department and allowing resources to be used for other public safety purposes. While registration was required in the past, the ordinance was not widely known. Under the new ordinance alarm registration fees were established as well as false alarm penalties that we anticipate will substantially reduce the number of false alarms.
To administer the program the City has contracted with ATB Services based on their experience and expertise in operating false alarm reduction programs across the country. ATB will be sending initial registration invoices to those properties which have already been identified as having alarm systems. If residents and businesses do not receive an invoice by the end of January, they should register on-line at www.atbservices.com/englewood by completing the User Registration Form. Inquiries and questions can be directed to ATB by calling 1-800-861-5944 between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
