The Community Chest of Englewood, also known as the Community Chest Serving Englewood, Tenafly and Englewood Cliffs, is a volunteer-run organization that raises funds to assist local non-profit programs. It offers contributors the unique opportunity to dedicate charitable dollars within our own community where the benefits are clearly visible. Each of our lives will be directly touched at some time by the work of organizations that the Chest supports. Since 1933, it has demonstrated time and again the capacity of the people of this community to care for each other. Through the years the combined efforts of donors, volunteers and recipients of funding have continued to connect the people of this community with the needs of this community.

The Community Chest is local and autonomous and is governed by a volunteer Board of Managers representative of the entire community. Each year it carefully researches applicants to ensure that gifts to the Chest meet identified community needs with maximum effectiveness. The Board reviews requests from local groups and agencies to determine whether programs for which funds are requested will serve local needs efficiently. The recipients provide a wide variety of social, cultural, recreational, and educational services for the community.

Beyond financial support, the Community Chest of Englewood increasingly offers support and leadership to raise levels of service. Workshops provide training to help non-profits work more effectively and encourage collaboration within the network of agencies. Since agencies must apply annually for support, their requests are a barometer of changes in community needs, and the Chest has been a valuable resource for community initiatives.
