I WANT TO REGISTER TO VOTE.
WHAT GUIDELINES MAY I FOLLOW?
You must be 18 years of age by the election.
You must be residing in Bergen County at least 21 days prior to the election.
You must be a citizen of the US.
You must show identification.
WILL I EVER BE REQUIRED TO RE-REGISTER?
Voter registration in NJ is permanent except when the voter has moved from the County in which she/he has registered.
- A voter who moves within the same election district remains registered and may be allowed to vote for 2 years.
- If a voter moves within the County at least 21 days prior to an election, the voter must file a Change of Address notice with the County Board of Elections.
- Voters who move within the County within the 21 days preceding the election may vote at their new designated polling place by means of a provisional ballot. You should contact your City Clerk for this information.
WHEN MUST I REGISTER TO VOTE TO BE ELIGIBLE TO VOTE IN THE NEXT ELECTION?
You may register at any time prior to the 21st day before any election:
By March 25, 2008 for the School Election
By May 13, 2008 for the Primary Election
By October 14, 2008 for the General Election
WHERE DO I GO TO REGISTER TO VOTE?
At the City Clerk's Office or the Bergen County Clerk's Office.
HOW DO I CHANGE MY PARTY AFFILIATION?
A Party Declaration Form must be filled out and may be obtained at the City Clerk's Office.
These forms must be submitted no later than 50 days prior to the Primary (April 14, 2008).
ABSENTEE BALLOTS:
- You may apply for an absentee ballot for any reason.
- Once you apply for an absentee ballot, you will not be allowed to vote at your polling place in the same election.
- The ballot must be received by the Board of Elections before the close of polls on Election Day.
MILITARY ABSENTEE BALLOTS:
Military personnel & dependents may vote by military absentee ballot if:
- You are in the Military Service
- You are a spouse or dependent of someone in the military
- You are a patient in a VA Hospital
- You are a civilian attached to the armed
services
WHEN IS THE LAST DAY TO APPLY FOR AN ABSENTEE BALLOT?
- If mailed, application must be received no later than 7 days before the Election
- If delivered in person to the County Clerk's office, no later than 3PM the day before the election
WHERE DO I VOTE?
- There are 14 voting districts in the City of Englewood. Yours will be noted on the top of the sample ballot you receive from the County or call the City Clerk.
WHAT TIME ARE THE POLLS OPEN?
6:00 AM to 8:00 PM
