General Qualifications to be an Englewood Police Officer


Must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of New Jersey; and 

Can read, write, and speak the English language well and intelligently and can satisfactorily meet the requirements of the written, oral and physical examinations which will be given; and 

Is a high school graduate or possesses a high school equivalency certificate recognized by the New Jersey Department of Education and has at least one of the following; 

  • Sixty (60) college credits from an accredited college or university, or 
  • Two years honorable military service and honorable discharge, or
  • A valid PTC certification from the state of New Jersey

 Must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license

 Must be of good moral character and not been convicted of any criminal offense involving moral turpitude; 

 As part of the process, applicants moving through the process will undergo an extensive background check.  

 

SALARY/WORK SCHEDULE 

 

In 2024, the starting salary for an Englewood City Police Officer is approximately $52,000. 

Englewood Police Officers assigned to the Patrol Bureau work a four on-four off 11 hour day schedule. Other assignments work a 40 hour work week on several different schedules.  

New officers receive paid time off and sick leave in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement.

RETIREMENT


Englewood Police Officers are enrolled in the NJ Police and Fire Retirement System (PFRS). When an officer retires, he or she can take advantage of a comprehensive retirement plan. The plan offers a wide variety of benefits, depending on years of service.
